The Visitor

For three days this last week, I had
a surprise visitor. One day he just
showed up. Although he was
unexpected, I found him
non-intrusive. He is the type that
most people don't like, in fact try
to avoid, but not me! The fact that
he had a beautiful face and a gentle
smile may have something to do with
it. Everybody knows I am a sucker
for cute! But a lot of people have
nothing good to say about my
visitor. I always defend him though
and that has nothing to do with his
gorgeous physique. :)
This visitor and I hung out
together; every time I turned
around, there he was, quietly
present. He never interfered with
my routine, and I respected his
space and let him get on with his
business. Despite the fact that I
am not used to sharing my space
(except with Lucy and
Minou),
this new visitor was a welcome
addition to the family.
But.. I
knew he couldn't stay. Much as I
marveled at his
demeanour - he exuded a sense
of calm - and was humbled that he
considered staying around I knew his
world was not mine. Although on the
surface we seemed to be very
different, his focus in his life was
much the same as mine, but I knew
his well-being depended on him
rejoining his own world, outside the
cocoon, which is my house.
The final confirmation of that came
when I found him relaxing calmly in
my bath- tub. I am the last to be
adverse
to sharing a long bath with a cute
companion (did I really say that?
Yep!), but I knew that this
particular occupant would NOT enjoy
such an escapade. Sometime, you
just know these things. :) So I
gently told him he needed to leave.
I DID chat to him, and explain that
whilst I am quite happy for him to
stay, I felt he needed to get on
with his life.
And so it was that this perfect
roommate/visitor left my bathroom.
Next time I looked, he was nowhere
to be found. I hadn't said
'goodbye'. I don't do well with
goodbyes, but I had wished him well,
sending him on with my prayer that
his life, however long it would be,
and wherever he would be led, would
be filled with love and joy!
And yes, this delightful visitor,
with his temporary appearance in my
home, gave me more lessons to think
about, reminded me of many things,
and I am thankful. I COULD
belabour
the point here, and share with you
the lessons I got from this 'chance'
encounter, but then they wouldn't be
YOUR lessons would they? :) We
each choose what we will embrace on
our own journeys, and that is the
joy.
And yes - this visitor was one of
the most beautiful spiders I have
ever seen, and I felt blessed that
he had been in my life for even such
a short time.
Truly.
